John McCormack Autographed Photo
|
 |
John McCormack (14 June 1884 - 16 September 1945), was a world-famous Irish tenor in the fields of opera and popular music, and renowned for his flawless diction and superb breath control.
He was much honoured and decorated for his services to the world of music. His greatest honour came in 1928, when he received the title of Papal Count from Pope Pius XI in recognition of his work for Catholic charities. Although he often came to be referred to as Count John McCormack in his professional life, this title was officially recognised only within the Catholic Church. To many people the highlight of McCormack's Irish career was his singing of César Franck's "Panis Angelicus" to the thousands who thronged Dublin's Phoenix Park for the 1932 Eucharistic Congress.
McCormack ended his career at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1938. Ill with emphysema, he bought a house near the sea, "Glena", Booterstown, Dublin. He is buried in Deansgrange Cemetery.

William Penn Adair "Will" Rogers (November 4, 1879 – August 15, 1935) was an American comedian, humorist, social commentator, vaudeville performer, and actor. He has been named Oklahoma's favorite son.
As a young man, Rogers loved the cowboy ways, yet had not settled into any definite career path. In March 1902, he traveled to England in a round-about way of securing passage for Argentina, where from May 1902 he spent five months seeking a career with the gauchos of the Argentine pampas. Later in 1902, the still-restless Rogers sailed for South Africa, where he took a job breaking in horses for the British Army. While in South Africa, he began his show business career as a trick roper in "Texas Jack's Wild West Circus", billed as "The Cherokee Kid". He held the record for throwing three lassos at one time.

Jack Benny Autographed Post Card
|
 |
Jack Benny (February 14, 1894 in Chicago, Illinois – December 26, 1974 in Beverly Hills, California), born Benjamin Kubelsky, was an American comedian, vaudeville performer, and radio, television, and film actor. He was one of the biggest stars in classic American radio and was also a major television personality.
Benny was renowned for his flawless comic timing and (especially) his ability to get laughs with either a pregnant pause or a single expression, such as his signature exasperated "Well!". In hand with his dear friend and great "rival" Fred Allen — their long-running "feud" was a famous running gag — Benny helped establish a basic palette from which comedy since has rarely deviated, no matter how extreme or experimental it has become in their wake.

Mary Livingstone (b. Sadye Marks, June 23, 1905, Seattle, Washington; d. June 30, 1983, Holmby Hills, Los Angeles, California), was an American radio comedienne and the wife and radio partner of comedy great Jack Benny (né Benjamin Kubelsky). Enlisted almost entirely by accident to perform on her husband's popular program, she proved a talented comedienne. But she also proved one of the rare performers (Barbra Streisand would prove another) to experience severe stage fright years after her career was established---so much so that she retired from show business completely, after two decades in the public eye, almost three decades before her death, and at the height of her husband and partner's fame.

So varied were Thomas's activities that when it came time for the Library of Congress to catalog his memoirs they were forced to put them in "CT" in their classification - biographies of subjects who don't fit into any other category.
Since 1980, the Explorers Club, which Thomas was a member of, annually presents the Lowell Thomas award to "honor men and women who have distinguished themselves in the field of exploration". The awards are presented at a yearly dinner to a select group of people having made particular contributions in the specific area chosen to be that year's focus. Born in poverty on a farm in Missouri, he was the author of How to Win Friends and Influence People, first published in 1936, a massive bestseller that remains popular today. He also wrote a biography of Abraham Lincoln, titled Lincoln the Unknown, as well as several other books.
