BARNEY OLDFIELD AUTOGRAPHED POST CARD
Bern "Barney" Eli Oldfield (June 3, 1878 – October 4, 1946) was an automobile racer and pioneer. He was born on a farm on the outskirts of Wauseon, Ohio. He was the first man to drive a car at 60 miles per hour (96 km/h). His accomplishments led to the expression "Who do you think you are? Barney Oldfield?" Barney Oldfield also helped fellow racer Carl G. Fisher found the Fisher Automobile Company in Indianapolis, Indiana, which is believed to be the first automobile dealership in the United States. He developed the Oldfield tire for Firestone, which help put Firestone on the map. Firestone used the slogan "'Firestone Tires are my only life insurance,' says Barney Oldfield, world's greatest driver." Original Barney Oldfield Autographed Post Card. JESS WILLARD AUTOGRAPHED ENVELOPE
Jess Willard (December 29, 1881 in Pottawatomie County, Kansas – December 15, 1968 in Los Angeles, California) was a world Heavyweight boxing champion. Willard parlayed his boxing fame into an acting career of a sort. He acted in a vaudeville show, had a role in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, and starred in a 1919 feature film The Challenge of Chance. In 1933, he appeared in a bit part in a boxing movie, The Prizefighter and the Lady, with Max Baer and Myrna Loy. In 2003, he was inducted posthumously into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. MAX BAER AUTOGRAPH
Maximilian Adelbert "Madcap Maxie" Baer (February 11, 1909 – November 21, 1959) was an American boxer of the 1930s, onetime Heavyweight Champion of the World, actor and entertainer. Max Baer boxed in 84 professional fights from 1929 to 1941. In all, his record was 72-12-0. 53 of those fights were knockouts, making him a member of the exclusive group of boxers to have won 50 or more bouts by knockout. Baer defeated the likes of Tommy Loughran, Ernie Schaaf, Walter Cobb, Kingfish Levinsky, Max Schmeling, Tony Galento, Ben Foord and Tommy Farr. He was Heavyweight Champion of the World from June 14, 1934, when he knocked out the massive, 125-kg (275-pound) Primo Carnera, to June 13, 1935, until his reign ended in the aforementioned Braddock fight. Baer fought Lou Nova in the first televised heavyweight prizefight, on June 1, 1939, on WNBT-TV in New York. His last match, in 1941, was another loss to Nova. Baer and his brother, Buddy, both lost fights to Joe Louis, Buddy's two losses to Louis coming in world title fights. In the second round of their 1935 fight, Joe knocked Max down to one knee, the first time Baer had ever been knocked to the canvas in his career. A sizzling left hook in the fourth round brought Max to his knee again, and the referee called the bout soon after. Baer was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 1968, the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1984 and the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1995. The 1998 Holiday Issue of Ring ranked Baer # 20 in "The 50 Greatest Heavyweights of All Time." In Ring Magazine's 100 Greatest Punchers (published in 2003), Baer is ranked number 22. Baer's motion picture debut was in The Prizefighter and the Lady (1933) opposite Myrna Loy and Walter Huston. In this MGM movie he played Steven "Steve" Morgan, a bartender that the Professor, played by Huston, begins training for the ring. Steve wins a fight, then marries Belle Mercer, played by Loy. He starts seriously training, but it turns out he has a huge ego and an eye for a women. Featured were Baer's upcoming opponent, Primo Carnera, as himself, whom Steve challenges for the championship, and Jack Dempsey, as himself, former heavyweight champion, acting as the referee. Baer married twice, actress Dorothy Dunbar (married July 8, 1931-divorced October 6, 1933) and Mary Ellen Sullivan (married June 29, 1935-his death 1959). With Sullivan, he had three children, actor Max Adelbert Baer Jr. (born 1937), James Manny Baer (born 1942) and Maudie Marian Baer (born 1944). During a separation from his first wife, Max had affairs with movie stars Jean Harlow, Mae West and Greta Garbo. Baer never lived to enjoy the TV and movie success of his son, Max Baer Jr. (who played Jethro Bodine in the television series The Beverly Hillbillies). At the time of his death on November 21, 1959, Baer was scheduled to appear in some TV commercials, which he had planned to do in Los Angeles before returning to his home in Sacramento. Since Max Baer Sr. was unable to defend himself from Ron Howard's unflattering portrayal in Cinderella Man, the task of rehabilitating his father's reputation has fallen to Max Baer Jr. Original Max Baer Autograph, Hand signed on a post card. JAKE LAMOTTA AUTOGRAPH
Giacobbe La Motta (born July 10, 1921), better known as Jake LaMotta, nicknamed "The Bronx Bull" and "The Raging Bull", is a former boxer who was world middleweight champion and whose life has been as controversial outside the ring as it was inside it. He was portrayed by Robert De Niro in the biopic Raging Bull. After retirement, LaMotta bought a few bars and became a stage actor and stand up comedian. He also appeared in over 15 motion pictures, including The Hustler, with Paul Newman and Jackie Gleason. LaMotta played the bartender. LaMotta has been active on the speaking and autograph circuit and has published several books about his career, his wife and his fights with Robinson. JAMES ( GENTLEMAN JIM) CORBETT AUTOGRAPH
James John Corbett (September 1, 1866 in San Francisco, California – February 18, 1933 in Bayside, Queens) was a heavyweight boxing champion. He was best known as "Gentleman Jim", the man who defeated the great John L. Sullivan. He also coached boxing at the Olympic Club in San Francisco. He stood at 6`1, with a reach of 73 inches. Dubbed by the media as "Gentleman Jim Corbett," he was college educated and in addition to boxing, pursued a career in acting, performing at a variety of theaters. He has been called the "Father of Modern Boxing" because of his scientific approach and innovations in technique. Some think that he changed prizefighting from a brawl to an art form. Following his retirement from boxing, Corbett returned to acting, appearing on stage and in film. He authored his autobiography under the title The Roar of the Crowd that was serialized by The Saturday Evening Post in six weekly installments during October/November of 1924. The following year, G.P. Putnam's Sons, published it in book form, marketing it as the "True Tale of the Rise and Fall of a Champion." In 1942, the story was made into a Hollywood motion picture titled, Gentleman Jim, starring Errol Flynn as Corbett. On its creation, he was elected posthumously to the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Corbett's brother, Joe Corbett, was a Major League Baseball pitcher. Corbett was married to Olive Lake Morris from 1886 to 1895. Corbett's great, great, great nephew, Dan Corbett, was a professional heavyweight boxer from Texas.

ANNETTE KELLERMAN AUTOGRAPH
Annette Marie Sarah Kellermann (6 July 1887, Sydney, New South Wales – 5 November 1975, Southport, Queensland, Australia) was an Australian professional swimmer, vaudeville and film star, writer, and advocate for the change of women's swimwear. She is often credited for inventing the sport of synchronised swimming after her 1907 performance of the first water ballet in a glass tank at the New York Hippodrome. At the age of 6, a weakness in Kellermann's legs necessitated the wearing of painful steel braces to strengthen them. In order to further overcome her disability, her parents enrolled her in swim classes at Cavill's baths in Sydney. By the age of 13, her legs were practically normal, and by 15, she had mastered all the swimming strokes and won her first race. At this time she was also giving diving displays. In 1902, Kellermann decided to take her swimming seriously and subsequently won the ladies' 100 yards and mile championships of New South Wales in the record times of 1 minute, 22 seconds and 33 minutes, 49 seconds respectively. In that same year, her parents decided to move to Melbourne, and she was enrolled at Mentone Girls' Grammar School where her mother had accepted a music teaching position. During her time at school, Kellermann gave exhibitions of swimming and diving at the main Melbourne baths, performed a mermaid act at Princes Court entertainment centre and did two shows a day swimming with fish in a glass tank at the Exhibition Aquarium. In June-July 1903 she performed in the Coogee scene of Bland Holt's spectacular, The Breaking of the Drought, at the Theatre Royal. On 24 August 1905, Kellermann became the first woman to attempt to swim the English Channel. After three unsuccessful swims she declared "I had the endurance but not the brute strength". Kellerman was famous for her advocacy of the right of women to wear a one-piece bathing suit, which was a controversial topic in the early 20th century. In the early 1900s, women were expected to wear cumbersome dress and pantaloon combinations when swimming... In 1907, at the height of her popularity, Kellermann was arrested on a Boston beach for indecency - she was wearing one of her fitted one-piece costumes. The popularity of her one piece suits resulted in her own line of women's swimwear. The "Annette Kellermans" as they were known, were the first step to modern swimwear. In 1908, after conducting a study of 3000 women, Dr. Dudley A. Sargent of Harvard University dubbed her the Perfect Woman because of the similarity of her physical attributes to the Venus de Milo. In 1916, Kellermann became the first major actress to do a nude scene when she appeared fully nude in A Daughter of the Gods. Made by Fox Film Corporation, Daughter of the Gods was the first million-dollar film production. As with many of Annette Kellerman's films, this is now considered a lost film and no copies are known to exist. Kellerman appeared in one of the last films made in Prizma Color, Venus of the South Seas (1924), a U. S./New Zealand co-production where one reel of the 55-minute film was in color and underwater. Venus of the South Seas, restored by the Library of Congress in 2004, is the only feature film starring Annette Kellerman known to exist in its complete form. In addition to her film and stage career, Kellermann wrote several books including How To Swim (1918), Physical Beauty: How to Keep It (1919), a book of children's stories titled Fairy Tales of the South Seas (1926) and My Story, an unpublished autobiography. She also wrote numerous mail order booklets on health, beauty and fitness. A lifelong vegetarian, Kellermann owned a health food store in Long Beach, California. She and her husband returned to live in Australia in 1970, and in 1974 she was honoured by the International Swimming Hall of Fame at Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She remained active well into old age continuing to swim and exercise until a short time before her death.

CHARLES ATLAS AUTOGRAPHED PHOTO
Charles Atlas (October 30, 1892 – December 23, 1972) was the owner and figurehead of a bodybuilding method and its associated exercise program; he is most well-known for a landmark advertising campaign featuring his name and likeness, which has been described as one of the most lasting and memorable ad campaigns of all time. According to his description, he trained himself to develop his body from that of a “scrawny weakling”, eventually becoming the most popular muscleman of his day. His company, Charles Atlas Ltd., was founded in 1929 and continues to this day marketing a fitness program for the “97-pound weakling”, it is now owned by Jeffrey C. Hogue. In 1921, Bernarr Macfadden, the publisher of the magazine Physical Culture dubbed him "The World's Most Perfectly Developed Man" in a contest held in Madison Square Garden. He was chosen by a cross-disciplined group of health and medical experts, educators, anthropologists, scientists and medical doctors who viewed Atlas as the "perfect male body" and placed his physical measurements on file for posterity. Atlas's physical measurements are buried in the Crypt of Civilization, a time capsule at Oglethorpe University. He soon took the role of strongman in the Coney Island Circus Side Show. Besides photographs, Atlas posed for many statues throughout his life, including, it has been said, the statue of George Washington in New York's Washington Square Park. Atlas was also an inspiration and a model for more recent body builders and fitness gurus including the current Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Atlas died of heart failure at age 80 after his daily jog on the beach. (It should be noted that his family had a history of heart attacks, so it was probably due to genetic inheritance.) At the time, people were still writing to him.

GRANTLAND RICE AUTOGRAPH
Grantland Rice (November 1, 1880–July 13, 1954) was an early 20th century American sportswriter. Rice was born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and subsequently attended Montgomery Bell Academy and Vanderbilt University in Nashville. After taking early jobs with the Atlanta Journal and the Cleveland News, he later became a sportswriter for the Nashville Tennessean. Afterwards he obtained a series of prestigious jobs with major newspapers in the Northeastern United States. He is best-known as being the successor to Walter Camp in the selection of college football All-America teams beginning in 1925, and for being the writer who dubbed the great backfield of the Notre Dame team of 1924 the "Four Horsemen" of Notre Dame, a Biblical reference to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, in a famous account published in the New York Herald Tribune on October 18 that describes the Notre Dame vs. Army game played at the Polo Grounds: “ Outlined against a blue-gray October sky the Four Horsemen rode again. In dramatic lore they are known as famine, pestilence, destruction and death. These are only aliases. Their real names are: Stuhldreher, Miller, Crowley and Layden. They formed the crest of the South Bend cyclone before which another fighting Army team was swept over the precipice at the Polo Grounds this afternoon as 55,000 spectators peered down upon the bewildering panorama spread out upon the green plain below. ” The passage added great import to the event described and elevated it to a level far beyond that of a mere football game. This passage, although famous, is far from atypical, as Rice's writing tended to be of an "inspirational" or "heroic" style, raising games to the level of ancient combat and their heroes to the status of demigods. He became even better known after his columns were nationally syndicated beginning in 1930, and became known as the "Dean of American Sports Writers". He and his writing are among the reasons that the 1920s in the United States are sometimes referred to as the "Golden Age of Sports". Grantland Rice died of a heart attack at the age 73 on July 14, 1954. According to author Mark Inabinett in his 1994 work, Grantland Rice and His Heroes: The Sportswriter as Mythmaker in the 1920s, Rice very consciously set out to make heroes of sports figures who impressed him, most notably Jack Dempsey, Babe Ruth, Bobby Jones, Bill Tilden, Red Grange, and Knute Rockne. CLARENCE CHAMBERLIN AUTOGRAPH
Clarence Duncan Chamberlin (November 11, 1893 – October 30, 1976) was the second man to solo pilot across the Atlantic Ocean, and he was the first to carry a passenger. Aviation Records: 1927 Endurance record by circling New York City for 51 hours and 11 minutes with Bert Acosta. 1927 First ship-to-shore flight, when he flew a mail plane to New York City from the deck of a ship 120 miles at sea. 1927 Second nonstop transatlantic flight, from Roosevelt Field, Long Island to Eisleben, Germany, a distance of 3,911 miles, in 42 hours and 31 minutes. 1927 First transatlantic passenger.

EDDIE RICKENBACKER AUTOGRAPH
Eddie Rickenbacker (October 8, 1890–July 27, 1973) was best known as a fighter ace and Medal of Honor recipient. He was also a race car driver and automotive designer, a government consultant in military matters and a pioneer in air transportation. During his lifetime, Rickenbacker worked with many influential civilian and military leaders. He had keen insight into technology, and vision for future improvements. Among other events, he participated in or observed Armistice Day on the Western Front. He was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1992. Inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 1992. Rickenbacker was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1994.

ROSCOE TURNER AUTOGRAPHED TYPED LETTER
Roscoe Turner (September 29, 1895 – June 23, 1970) was an aviator who was a three time winner of the Thompson Trophy. He established a flying school in World War II that, ultimately, trained some 3,000 pilots. Later in life, Turner founded the Roscoe Turner Aeronautical Corp, a large fixed base operator in Indianapolis, Indiana. In 1947 the CAB granted authority to operate Turner Airlines, later renamed Lake Central Airlines. He set the east to west transcontinental airspeed record at 12 hours and 33 minutes, from New York to Burbank, California, on November 14, 1930. Turner bettered by two hours and 17 minutes the former mark set by Frank Hawks. He also won the Bendix Trophy in 1933 and the Thompson trophy in 1934, 1938 and 1939. He was well on his way to win the 1936 Thompson when engine failure forced him out. He retired from racing after the 1939 Thompson race claiming that, at the age of 44, he was too old to race anymore. He was also an honorary official with the Indianapolis 500 car race for many years. In 1952, Roscoe Turner was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross by the US Congress for his contributions to aviation. He was inducted in the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1991.

LOUIS BLERIOT AUTOGRAPHED COMMEMORATIVE ENVELOPE
Louis Blériot (July 1, 1872 – August 2, 1936) was a French inventor and engineer. In 1909 he achieved the first flight over a large body of water in a heavier-than-air craft when he crossed the English Channel, and received 1000 pounds for doing so. Blériot was a pioneer of the sport of air racing. Born in Cambrai, Louis Blériot studied engineering at the École Centrale Paris. His interest in aviation manifested itself when, in 1900, he built an ornithopter, a type of aircraft which uses wing-flapping to achieve flight. Blériot and collaborator Gabriel Voisin formed the Blériot-Voisin Company. Active between 1903 and 1906, the company developed several unsuccessful aircraft designs. After years of honing his piloting skills, Blériot decided to go after the coveted thousand-pound prize offered by the London Daily Mail for a successful crossing of the English Channel. On July 25, 1909 he flew the twenty-two statute miles (35 km) from Les Barraques (near Calais) to Dover in his Blériot XI. The trip took thirty-seven minutes. The Bleriot XI was a structurally strong yet simple and manouverable monoplane of his design powered by a 25 HP radial Anzani engine. In 2006, Rivendell Bicycle Works introduced a model named the "Bleriot." It features a portrait of Louis Blériot prominently displayed on the seat tube. Sullivan - flew from New York to Marseilles, France, to make his first flight across the Atlantic Jan. 28, 1928. He made his "100" flight across the Atlantic. Herbert Hoover - Herbert Clark Hoover (August 10, 1874 – October 20, 1964), the thirty-first President of the United States (1929–1933), was a mining engineer and humanitarian administrator. As the United States Secretary of Commerce in the 1920s under Presidents Warren Harding and Calvin Coolidge, he promoted economic modernization. In the presidential election of 1928 Hoover easily won the Republican nomination. The nation was prosperous and optimistic, leading to a landslide for Hoover over the Democrat Al Smith, a Catholic whose religion was distrusted by many. Hoover deeply believed in the Efficiency Movement (a major component of the Progressive Era), arguing that there were technical solutions to all social and economic problems. That position was challenged by the Great Depression, which began in 1929, the first year of his presidency. He tried to combat the Depression with volunteer efforts and government action, none of which produced economic recovery during his term. The consensus among historians is that Hoover's defeat in the 1932 election was caused primarily by failure to end the downward spiral into deep Depression, compounded by popular opposition to prohibition. Earle Ovington -Prior to his training as a pilot Ovington had worked as an engineering assistant to Thomas A. Edison in New Jersey. The first air mail flights and the passenger carrying planes from transcontinental to transoceanic remind us that the first official air mail pilot in the U.S. was from Newton! In September, 1911 the big event at the Harvard-Boston Aviation Meet at Squantum Airfield was a $10,000 inter-city flight competition sponsored by the Boston Globe, The flight rules of the race required the four contestants to fly a circuitous route over the cities of Nashua, Worcester, Providence and back to Squantum. One of the competitors was Earle Ovington of Newton who was piloting a 100 horsepower Bleriot monoplane which he had learned to fly at the Bleriot Aviation School in Pau, France in 1906. He was easily the winner of the race, the only one of the four contestants to complete the 174 mile course. C.E. Rosendahl - was an admiral in the United States Navy and an advocate of lighter than air flight. Designated a Naval Aviator in November 1924, Lieutenant Commander Rosendahl served in the dirigible Shenandoah, and distinguished himself by successfully bringing part of the shattered airship safely to earth after she broke up in the air on 3 September 1925 over Noble County, Ohio. He next was Executive Officer, and later Commanding Officer, of the dirigible Los Angeles and took part in long-range flights on board the German commercial airship Graf Zeppelin. In 1930 Rosendahl was assigned to the Bureau of Aeronautics, in Washington, D.C., and in 1931-1932 commanded the new dirigible Akron. Ruth Elder - She made up her mind that she would be the first "Lady Lindy," the first woman to fly across the Atlantic. Her stage critics and others immediately held her in ridicule when she made her announcement. Some called her proposed flight a publicity stunt, prompted by Lindbergh's success and designed to help her acting career. In part, they were probably right. The publicity generated by her announcement was good exposure for her career. Had the flight been successful, Elder would have been the first woman to fly across the Atlantic. Unfortunately, bad weather and a leaking oil line forced the two to ditch in the Atlantic 300 miles short of their goal. They were rescued by a passing ship and, although they had been unsuccessful, they were treated as national and international heroes. They were even accorded the ultimate hero's welcome, a tickertape parade through the streets of New York City.

ANTHONY FOKKER AUTOGRAPH
Anton Herman Gerard Fokker (April 6, 1890 – December 23, 1939) was a pioneer in aviation and a Dutch-American aircraft manufacturer. In 1912, Fokker moved to Johannisthal near Berlin where he founded his first own company, Fokker Aeroplanbau. In the following years he constructed a variety of airplanes. He relocated his factory to Schwerin where it was renamed Fokker Flugzeugwerke GmbH, and later shortened to Fokker Werke GmbH. At the onset of World War I, the German government took control of the factory. Fokker remained as director and designed many aircraft for the Imperial German Army Air Service (Luftstreitkräfte), including the Fokker Dr.I, the triplane made famous in the hands of aces such as Manfred von Richthofen (the Red Baron). He also designed the synchronization gear that allowed the machine gun to be fired through the propeller blades, resulting in a phase of German air-superiority known as the Fokker Scourge. In all, his company delivered about 700 military planes to the German air force. In 1922, he moved to the United States and later became an American citizen. Here he established the American branch of his company, the Atlantic Aircraft Corporation. In 1927, Fokker married Violet Austman in New York City. He died in New York in 1939 of complications of sinus surgery. He was 49 years old.
